New Delhi, Delhi
Amid opposition allegations over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rejected claims that the names of 13 crore voters have been deleted from the voter list. The party said these voters have not been finally removed but have been marked in the draft electoral roll under different categories.
According to the BJP, these voters have been identified as deceased, absent, shifted or duplicate voters. The party said the electoral roll revision process is still underway and that final action will be taken only after claims and objections are submitted and examined.
The political debate over the SIR process has intensified across the country. The opposition has repeatedly alleged that the revision could affect the names of a large number of voters. The BJP has rejected these allegations and accused the Congress of running a campaign to create fear among people over the SIR exercise.
The BJP also clarified allegations concerning Form 6, stating that no changes have been made to the form. According to the party, only an additional declaration has been added to make the process more convenient for voters.
The BJP further said that the electoral roll system is decentralised and that state election authorities have the necessary powers under the law. The party claimed that 2.37 crore new young voters have been added to the electoral rolls since June 2025.
Through its clarification, the BJP has sought to counter opposition allegations that the SIR process is leading to the large-scale deletion of voters’ names from electoral rolls.
