Chamba, Himachal Pradesh
Seema, a runner from Reta village in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, delivered an impressive performance at the Asian Games, winning a bronze medal for India. She finished third in the final of the 10,000-metre race held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Remarkably, her shoe tore during the race, but she refused to give up and went on to secure the medal.
Seema’s journey to the international stage has not been easy. She trained by running along the hilly trails and rural roads of Chamba, building her career through years of hard work, discipline, and determination.
Her Shoe Tore, But Her Spirit Did Not
Seema remained among the leading runners from the beginning of the 10,000-metre final. As the race entered its final stages, she was firmly in contention for a medal. It was during this crucial phase that her shoe tore, affecting her pace and rhythm.
Despite the setback, Seema continued running and crossed the finish line in third place. Her performance not only earned India a medal but also demonstrated her remarkable resilience and fighting spirit.
From Mountain Trails to the World Stage
In her early days, Seema trained amid the challenging geographical conditions of Chamba. Regularly running on mountainous terrain helped strengthen her fitness, endurance, and ability to compete under demanding conditions.
Her bronze medal at the Asian Games is the result of years of training, dedication, and perseverance. Seema’s achievement, which saw the Indian tricolour rise on the international stage in Japan, has now become a source of inspiration for athletes and sports enthusiasts across Chamba and Himachal Pradesh.
