The issue of police action against protesting students at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar is set to be raised in Parliament. The central government has agreed to hold a discussion in Parliament on student protests and related incidents. The government has said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be present in the House to respond to the police action against protesting students in Delhi and clarify the government’s position.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Monday that the government was ready for a comprehensive and detailed discussion in Parliament on student protests. He also appealed to the opposition not to disrupt the proceedings of the House during the discussion.
Home Minister to Respond
Following demands from the opposition, the government agreed to a discussion on the issue. Under the proposed discussion, Home Minister Amit Shah will present the government’s position on the police action against the protesting students.
The government said that the student protests and related developments can be discussed in detail in the House. Rijiju said the government was not backing away from the discussion and that the opposition would also have an opportunity to present its views.
Appeal to Opposition Not to Create a Ruckus
Kiren Rijiju appealed to the Congress and other opposition parties not to disrupt proceedings when the Home Minister makes his statement and the government responds to the issue.
He said the opposition should listen to the Home Minister and the government’s response. The government has emphasized that the issue of student protests and police action should be discussed in Parliament in an orderly and constructive manner.
All eyes are now on the proceedings of Parliament, where the government and opposition are expected to confront each other over the student protests at Jantar Mantar and the subsequent police action.
