Kolkata, West Bengal
Industrial investment activity is gaining momentum in West Bengal. After the Adani Group, Reliance Industries has also started exploring investment opportunities across several sectors in the state. On Wednesday, senior Reliance Industries officials and CEOs associated with various businesses met Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the state secretariat, Nabanna. The meeting focused on investment opportunities, industrial development and employment generation.
According to state government officials, discussions were held on potential projects across six major sectors. These include data centres and AI cloud services, an international cable landing station, coal gasification, a food park, road infrastructure and a multi-speciality hospital.
Data Centre Project Underway in Rajarhat
Reliance has already started work on a data centre project at the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub in Rajarhat. The meeting also discussed the possible expansion of this project and other potential plans by the company.
Reliance has already acquired land in the area and is now exploring further opportunities related to digital infrastructure and cloud services.
International Cable Landing Station Planned in Digha
The proposed international cable landing station in Digha, East Midnapore, was also discussed during the meeting. The project could strengthen West Bengal’s international internet and data connectivity through undersea data cables.
Discussions were also held on the possibility of establishing a food park in North Bengal. Considering Reliance’s FMCG business, the project could support expansion in food processing and related sectors.
Coal Gasification and Hospital Projects Also Under Consideration
The meeting also included discussions on opportunities linked to the Deucha-Pachami coal project and coal gasification.
In the healthcare sector, Reliance is also exploring the possibility of establishing a multi-speciality hospital. Infrastructure-related projects, including road development, were also reportedly discussed.
Mukesh Ambani Met Suvendu Adhikari on September 21
Before Wednesday’s meeting with Reliance officials, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai on September 21. The meeting focused on industrial development and creating new employment opportunities in West Bengal.
Following that meeting, a delegation of senior Reliance officials visited Bengal to explore specific investment opportunities and potential projects.
The development comes at a time when the Adani Group has also announced plans to invest more than ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035.
If Reliance’s proposed projects move forward, they could give a further boost to industrial investment, infrastructure development, digital connectivity, healthcare and employment opportunities across West Bengal.
