Indian Pomegranates and Kiwi Enter Dubai Market; Farmers Get Opportunity to Earn 50% More Than Domestic Prices

New Delhi, Delhi: In a significant development aimed at expanding the global reach of Indian agricultural products, pomegranates from Kullu in Himachal Pradesh and kiwis from Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh have entered the Dubai market in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The export initiative has opened new international business opportunities for Indian farmers. According to available information, pomegranate growers have received prices approximately 50% higher than those offered in domestic markets.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the export of fruits from both states. The initiative aims to connect Indian agricultural producers with international markets and create better commercial opportunities for farmers.

Pomegranates from Kullu and Kiwis from Ziro Exported to Dubai

According to the ministry, approximately 1.3 metric tonnes of Sindoori variety pomegranates were exported from Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh to Dubai.

Additionally, around 1.5 metric tonnes of kiwi fruits were exported from the Ziro region of Arunachal Pradesh.

Both consignments were dispatched as trial shipments to assess the demand and commercial potential of Indian fruits in the Dubai market.

These initial exports will help evaluate the acceptance of Indian agricultural products among international buyers and identify opportunities for future expansion.

Pomegranate Farmers Receive 50% Higher Prices

One of the most significant aspects of this export initiative is the higher returns available to farmers.

According to the available information, pomegranate growers have received approximately 50% higher prices compared with the domestic market.

This development could encourage farmers to explore international trade opportunities, either directly or through established export channels.

Higher prices in overseas markets may also motivate farmers to improve product quality, adopt better agricultural practices and meet international export standards.

APEDA Support Expands International Export Opportunities

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is working to connect agricultural producers from different Indian states with international markets.

The recent exports of pomegranates from Himachal Pradesh and kiwis from Arunachal Pradesh to Dubai represent an important step in this direction.

If the trial shipments receive a positive response from international buyers, there may be opportunities to increase export volumes in the future.

New Global Opportunities for Indian Farmers

The initiative is expected to help regional fruit growers expand their businesses beyond domestic markets and connect with international buyers.

Improved export opportunities could strengthen farmers’ incomes, increase the global recognition of Indian agricultural products and create new avenues for agricultural trade.

The successful expansion of these exports could also encourage other fruit-producing regions in India to explore international markets.
