US Launches Fresh Strikes On Iran Targets Amid Fragile Ceasefire
US says strikes were defensive as tensions rise again near the Strait of Hormuz amid fragile Iran ceasefire talks.
The United States has carried out fresh military strikes on Iranian targets for the second time in three days, escalating tensions in the Gulf region despite an ongoing fragile ceasefire. According to the US Central Command (Centcom), American forces targeted a military site in Bandar Abbas, Iran’s strategic port city near the Strait of Hormuz.
Centcom stated that US troops also intercepted and destroyed four Iranian one-way attack drones that allegedly posed a threat around the Strait of Hormuz. The military site in Bandar Abbas was reportedly struck while preparing to launch another drone. Iranian media confirmed explosions were heard in the eastern part of the city.
The renewed conflict comes during continued negotiations aimed at ending the three-month-long war that has disrupted global oil supplies and severely affected shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest energy routes.
US officials described the operation as “measured and defensive,” saying the action was necessary to protect American forces and maintain regional stability. However, the latest strikes have raised fears of further escalation and threaten the already delicate ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
