Ola, Uber, Rapido Not Banned In Maharashtra; Govt Targets Illegal Bike Taxi Operations

### Maharashtra Govt Clarifies No Ban On Ola, Uber And Rapido; Action Only Against Illegal Bike Taxi Services

Mumbai, May 16: Rumours claiming that cab aggregator services like Ola, Uber and Rapido have been completely shut down in Maharashtra are false. The Maharashtra government has officially clarified that there is no ban on these platforms and regular cab services are operating normally across the state.

The clarification came after several social media posts went viral alleging that the state government had stopped the operations of Ola, Uber and Rapido in Maharashtra.

According to the Maharashtra government, the action is only against illegal and unauthorised bike taxi services operating through these apps. Licensed cab and transport services will continue without any disruption.

Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed the Cyber Crime department to take immediate action against unauthorised bike taxi operations in the state. The minister has also reportedly asked authorities to file FIRs against companies involved in running bike taxi services without proper permission.

The Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR), Maharashtra, shared a statement on social media calling the viral claims “misleading” and clarified that no complete shutdown order has been issued against Ola, Uber or Rapido.

Officials said that the Transport Commissioner has also written to the Cyber Crime department regarding illegal bike taxi operations being conducted through aggregator platforms.

The government’s latest move has created confusion among commuters, especially in cities like Mumbai and Pune, where thousands of people rely on app-based cab services daily. However, authorities have assured citizens that authorised taxi and cab operations remain unaffected.

The issue mainly revolves around bike taxi services, which are currently facing legal and regulatory scrutiny in Maharashtra.
