Panic broke out aboard Flydubai flight FZ-1073 on Wednesday when the aircraft suddenly began descending rapidly. Initially, passengers believed the plane had encountered severe turbulence. However, they later learned that a serious physical confrontation was allegedly taking place between the pilot and co-pilot inside the cockpit.
Passenger Almog Italy said the aircraft descended rapidly for around 20 to 30 seconds. Although the plane stabilized afterward, it began descending again shortly afterward. The situation caused widespread panic among passengers, with several people moving toward the front section of the aircraft. Chaos also unfolded around the cockpit.
According to passengers, reserve crew members played an important role in helping regain control of the aircraft and stabilizing the situation. Italy described the incident as extremely frightening, although most passengers tried to remain calm and support one another.
Zika Manes, one of three Israeli passengers who helped restrain the co-pilot, told Israel’s Channel 12 that it took around 20 to 25 minutes to bring the alleged attacker under control. According to Manes, the situation was extremely difficult and required immediate action.
Another passenger said screams could be heard during the struggle and that blood was visible outside the cockpit. Some passengers described the incident as terrifying, saying they feared the aircraft was about to crash.
Passenger Miriam Ohayon said that within minutes of the incident, the aircraft began to feel completely out of control. She said that when the cockpit door opened, blood could be seen inside.
According to another account, the incident began around two hours after takeoff. A passenger returning from the bathroom allegedly witnessed a physical confrontation inside the cockpit and alerted other passengers. Passengers also reported hearing calls for help coming from the cockpit.
Following the incident, the aircraft was safely landed in Saudi Arabia, where medical staff and other necessary facilities were arranged for the passengers. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
