The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a major cash reward for athletes who won medals at the 20th Asian Games and brought pride to the state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a total reward of ₹5.33 crore for the medal-winning athletes. The government’s decision is being seen as an important step toward encouraging and supporting sportspersons.
At the 20th Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, athletes from Himachal Pradesh represented the country and delivered an impressive performance. In recognition of their achievements, the state government has announced separate cash rewards for the medal winners.
The four Himachal athletes who won the gold medal in women’s kabaddi — Pushpa Rana, Ritu Negi, Jyoti Thakur, and Bhavana Thakur — will receive ₹33 lakh each. Together, the four players will receive a total of ₹1.33 crore.
Similarly, Sawan Barwal, who won a silver medal in the men’s marathon event, will receive a cash reward of ₹2.50 crore from the state government. Seema Kumari, who won a bronze medal in the women’s 10,000-metre race, will be awarded ₹1.50 crore.
The Chief Minister has also announced an increase in the prize money for sports achievements. The government aims to provide financial encouragement to athletes from the state and help them prepare for better performances at national and international levels.
Himachal Pradesh has no shortage of sporting talent. The prize money announced by the government is expected to boost the morale of young athletes. Financial recognition for players who win medals at international competitions is also likely to encourage greater interest in sports among the youth.
