How to Download an Instagram Post to Your Phone
If you want to save a photo or video from one of your older Instagram posts to your phone’s gallery, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app on your smartphone.
- Tap your Profile Picture in the bottom-right corner to open your profile.
- Select the photo or video post you want to save.
- Open the post and tap the Share button.
- From the available options, tap Download.
- The photo or video can then be saved to your phone’s Camera Roll/Gallery.
This allows you to keep a copy of your own posted media on your device.
Automatically Save Every Post to Your Gallery
If you want photos and videos you post on Instagram to automatically be saved to your phone’s camera roll, you can enable the relevant saving option in the app.
Follow these steps:
- Open your Instagram Profile.
- Tap the More Options menu in the top-right corner.
- Scroll down and open Your App and Media.
- Tap Archiving and Downloading.
- Turn on the Saving to Camera Roll option.
Once enabled, Instagram can save the content you post to your phone’s camera roll as well.
How to Save an Instagram Story to Your Phone
Instagram also provides an option to save your Stories to your device.
Follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Tap your Profile Picture in the top-left corner.
- Tap through your Stories until you reach the Story you want to save.
- Once the Story is open, tap the three-dot menu in the bottom-left corner.
- Open the More menu.
- Tap Save.
The selected Instagram Story can then be saved to your phone’s camera roll.

Instagram’s download and saving features are primarily intended for saving your own content. Downloading and reusing another person’s photo or video without permission may raise copyright or privacy concerns.
