Puducherry, India
India A strengthened its position against Australia A in the first unofficial Test being played in Puducherry. At the end of the third day, Australia A had scored 55 runs for the loss of two wickets in its second innings. India has set the visitors a target of 363 runs, meaning Australia A still needs 308 runs to win.
At stumps, Nathan McSweeney was unbeaten on 23, while Australia A captain Peter Handscomb was yet to open his account. India is in a strong position, but to secure victory, it will need to dismiss Australia A’s remaining eight batters on the fourth day.
India Dominates the First Innings
India A scored 334 runs in its first innings. In response, Australia A’s batting lineup struggled against the Indian bowlers, with the entire team being bowled out for 171 runs. India therefore secured a crucial first-innings lead of 163 runs.
India A then scored 199 runs in its second innings before being bowled out. Backed by its first-innings advantage, India set Australia A a challenging target of 363 runs.
Indian Bowlers in Focus on Day Four
The match now largely depends on India A’s bowling attack. If the Indian bowlers can pick up a few more wickets in the opening session, pressure on the visitors could increase significantly.
However, Australia A has an entire day of batting available, giving them an opportunity to build partnerships and chase down the target. India will therefore need to maintain disciplined lines and lengths while preventing Australia A from establishing long partnerships.
India A is certainly in a strong position at the end of the third day, but the outcome will depend heavily on Australia A’s batting and the performance of the Indian bowlers on the fourth day.
