Initiative launched on Dr. Anil Patel’s birthday to promote compassion for animals and birds; structure to be dedicated to the memory of Late Hansaben Miyani

Turning a birthday celebration into an occasion for service and compassion towards living beings, a unique initiative has been launched in Botad, Gujarat. A modern and artistically designed multi-storey bird shelter will be constructed near Krishna Sagar Lake within the premises of the city’s renowned Jagannath Temple.
The financial responsibility for the project is being undertaken by Dr. Anilbhai Patel of Jyot Eye Hospital, Botad. The proposed bird shelter will be dedicated to the memory of Late Hansaben Popatbhai Miyani of Prahladgarh, Gadhada (Swamina) Taluka.
A formal Bhumi Pujan and foundation ceremony for the project was held at the temple premises on September 12, 2026, marking Dr. Anil Patel’s birthday.
A Modern Approach to Jeevdaya
The tradition of Jeevdaya—compassion and care for living beings—has deep roots in Gujarat, with institutions such as Panjarapoles having long played an important role in caring for animals and birds.
The proposed bird shelter aims to give this tradition a modern form. Rather than being simply a place for birds to sit or rest, the facility is planned as a systematic, safe and aesthetically designed shelter.
The project seeks to provide birds with a secure space within an urban environment while also encouraging greater awareness about animal welfare, bird conservation and environmental responsibility among the public.
Support and Inspiration from Several Organisations
The initiative has reportedly received inspiration and participation from several organisations, including Adijin Yuvak Charitable Trust, Mumbai; Amijara Vasupujya Jeev Raksha Abhiyan, Ahmedabad; and Botad Mahajan Panjarapole.
The project is notable for bringing together a private donor, a religious institution and organisations associated with animal welfare to develop a permanent facility dedicated to bird protection.
Mahant Rajgiri Bapu Attends Foundation Ceremony
Mahant Rajgiri Bapu of Jagannath Temple was present at the foundation ceremony.
Dr. Anilbhai Patel, Smt. Komalben, Vikasbhai Patel and several animal welfare supporters also attended the programme.
C.L. Bhikadiya, Chairman of the Muktidham Navnirman Committee, along with Prameshbhai Shah, Jitubhai Shah and Sejalbhai Gopani, among others, participated in the event.
Prameshbhai Shah also shared his thoughts on the importance of Jeevdaya and the spirit of service on the occasion.
A Memorial Dedicated to Service
The bird shelter being constructed in memory of Late Hansaben Miyani represents an effort to connect personal remembrance with a lasting act of service to living beings.
Launched on Dr. Anil Patel’s birthday, the initiative is expected to become a lasting symbol of compassion, environmental awareness and bird conservation in Botad.
The project also highlights how community participation and philanthropic efforts can contribute to creating safer spaces for birds within growing urban areas.
