Hyderabad: Minister for Irrigation, Uttam Reddy, has sharply criticized the BRS party’s recent demand to switch on the motors at the Kannepalli pumphouse, describing it as ‘silly’ and lacking practical consideration. Speaking at a press conference, the Minister emphasized that such decisions cannot be made without scientific backing and cautioned against impulsive demands that could jeopardize ongoing irrigation projects.

The Kannepalli pumphouse, a vital component of the region’s irrigation infrastructure, plays a crucial role in ensuring water supply to surrounding agricultural areas. However, Uttam Reddy pointed out that the operation of its motors depends on several technical and environmental factors, including water availability and structural assessments.

“We need to adhere to expert advice, not political pressures,” the Minister stated, underscoring that the BRS’s call ignores the technical limitations identified by engineers and environmental experts. Recent evaluations by departments overseeing the project indicate that powering the motors at this time could result in inefficiencies and potentially harm the system’s longevity.

Further, the Minister explained that the comprehensive strategy governing the management of water resources in the region involves meticulous planning aligned with seasonal conditions and forecasted water levels. “Switching on motors indiscriminately could lead to wastage and disrupt water distribution,” he added.

Local farmers and agricultural stakeholders have expressed mixed reactions. While some BRS supporters welcomed the demand as an attempt to expedite irrigation support, others echoed the Government’s stance on the importance of following technical recommendations. The irrigation Minister assured that the government remains committed to optimizing water distribution and supports initiatives that are sustainable and technically sound.

Political analysts suggest that the BRS’s demand may be aimed at showcasing responsiveness to farmer concerns ahead of upcoming local elections. However, Minister Uttam Reddy urged all parties to collaborate constructively and prioritize the long-term welfare of the region’s agricultural economy over short-term political gains.

In conclusion, the Minister reiterated the administration’s dedication to managing the region’s water resources prudently. He urged stakeholders to remain patient as the Government continues to implement projects like the Kannepalli pumphouse in accordance with expert guidance and sustainable practices.
