The board’s statement comes after an ethical hacker alleged that he had identified vulnerabilities in the portal and reported them to CERT-In, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, back in February.

According to the hacker, the portal, which is critical for the evaluation and recording of student examination results, had security gaps that could potentially be exploited. However, the CBSE promptly responded, reassuring stakeholders that the system is secure and that no unauthorized access or data compromise has occurred.

“We want to clarify that the CBSE marking portal remains secure and fully operational,” a board official said. “No breach has been detected, and all data integrity is intact. We continuously monitor our systems and collaborate with cybersecurity experts to maintain stringent security standards.”

The ethical hacker’s claim gained widespread attention, prompting both media scrutiny and public concern about the potential impact on examination results and students’ academic records. Experts, however, noted that ethical hackers often report such findings to improve system security rather than exploit vulnerabilities.

CERT-In, which is responsible for handling cybersecurity incidents in India, acknowledged receiving the report in February and stated that the matter was investigated in coordination with the CBSE. Further details of their findings have not been publicly disclosed, citing confidentiality and security protocols.

Education analysts emphasized the importance of transparent communication in such cases to avoid misinformation and panic among students, parents, and staff. “It is encouraging that the CBSE has addressed these concerns swiftly,” said a digital security expert. “Regular audits and vulnerability assessments are essential for entities managing sensitive data, especially in the education sector.”

CBSE has assured that it will continue enhancing its cybersecurity measures and work closely with relevant authorities to safeguard its digital platforms. The board also urged anyone who discovers potential security issues to report them responsibly through proper channels.

As the situation develops, the CBSE reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the credibility and reliability of its examination system, which serves millions of students nationwide. Stakeholders are advised to rely on official communications and avoid spreading unverified information.

Source

In response to recent claims regarding the security of its marking portal, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has firmly denied any breach or compromise.
