Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a severe and often fatal illness caused by the Ebola virus. First identified in 1976 near the Ebola River in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo, the virus causes fever, severe internal bleeding, organ failure, and ultimately death in many cases.<\/p>\n

Why Did WHO Declare a PHEIC?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

The WHO declared a PHEIC because recent reports from several African countries indicate a sharp increase in Ebola cases and deaths. The rapid spread, combined with limited healthcare infrastructure in affected regions, elevates the risk of regional and even international transmission. How is Ebola Transmitted?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

Early supportive medical care improves survival odds; treatments include rehydration with oral or intravenous fluids and symptomatic management.
