India made a commanding start to the three-match T20 International series against Zimbabwe with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory in the opening match at the Harare Sports Club. A disciplined bowling performance restricted the hosts to 125/7 before teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a sensational half-century to guide India to the target with ease. After winning the toss, India captain Shreyas Iyer elected to bowl first, a decision that paid immediate dividends. Returning fast bowler Mayank Yadav struck with the very first ball of the match by dismissing Brian Bennett, putting Zimbabwe under early pressure. Zimbabwe struggled to accelerate against India’s well-organized bowling attack. After a disappointing outing during the recent series against England, the left-handed opener bounced back in spectacular fashion by racing to his maiden T20 International half-century in just 18 balls. His fearless stroke play put Zimbabwe’s bowlers under immediate pressure and virtually sealed the contest during the Powerplay.
Sooryavanshi struck four boundaries and four sixes during his explosive innings of 50 from 19 deliveries before being dismissed while attempting another attacking shot. His aggressive approach ensured India remained comfortably ahead of the required run rate throughout the chase. The young batter also became the youngest player to score a half-century in T20 International cricket, adding another milestone to his rapidly growing career.
After Sooryavanshi’s departure, Ishan Kishan contributed a fluent 35 off 24 balls, while captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 28 to steer India home without any late drama. India reached 126/3 in just 13.2 overs, completing a convincing seven-wicket victory with 40 balls to spare.
The match also marked a successful return for Mayank Yadav, who impressed with his pace, control, and ability to generate early breakthroughs after spending time away from international cricket.
