Bengaluru Police Sub-Inspector Arrested Over Dowry Harassment Allegations by Wife
A Bengaluru Police Sub-Inspector has been arrested after his wife accused him of demanding ₹50 lakh in dowry, physical assault, mental harassment, and repeated domestic abuse.

A Bengaluru Police Sub-Inspector (SI) has been arrested following serious allegations made by his wife, who accused him of demanding ₹50 lakh as dowry, along with subjecting her to physical and mental harassment. The case has drawn significant attention as the accused is a serving police officer.
According to the complaint, the woman alleged that her husband repeatedly pressured her family to pay ₹50 lakh as dowry after their marriage. She claimed that when the demand was not fulfilled, she was physically assaulted, mentally tortured, and threatened with divorce.
The victim further stated that she had previously approached a local police station to report the alleged abuse, but no significant action was taken at that time. She later escalated the matter by filing a complaint with the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), following which an investigation was initiated and the accused officer was arrested.
In her complaint, the woman also alleged that her father had already spent a substantial amount on the wedding and had even sold a car to meet some of the accused’s financial demands. Despite this, she claimed the harassment continued, with repeated pressure for additional money.
The complaint also mentions an incident that allegedly took place on July 12, during which the accused reportedly visited her parental home and assaulted her father with a sharp object after demanding dowry. The woman further alleged that the accused threatened her family with serious consequences if the demand was not met.
She also claimed that the accused had previously been named in another dowry-related complaint. However, police officials have stated that the present investigation is based on the current complaint and available evidence.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and that further legal action will be taken based on witness statements, medical records, and other evidence collected during the inquiry. The accused faces charges under relevant provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), where applicable.
