Shri Thanedar, who represents Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, said that the President cannot impose arbitrary tariffs on any country at his own discretion. He criticised the US tariffs imposed on India and several other countries.
According to Thanedar, the country cannot be governed in an arbitrary manner. He emphasised that presidential decisions must be subject to accountability and comply with established rules. He also urged the Democratic Party to keep impeachment as an option in response to Trump’s policies.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump issued a warning to Democrats on Wednesday. He said that if Democrats gained control of Congress next year and initiated impeachment proceedings against him, his party’s political opponents could face serious consequences.
Differences between the two major political parties in the United States appear to be growing over tariff policies and the extent of presidential powers. While Shri Thanedar has questioned Trump’s decisions, the President has warned Democrats against attempting to initiate impeachment proceedings.
The developments have sparked renewed debate in American politics over presidential authority, international trade policies and the possibility of impeachment.
