The Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission (OUSSSC) has launched its 2026 recruitment drive, offering an excellent opportunity for candidates who have completed their 10th or 12th board exams. This recruitment campaign will fill more than 7,200 vacancies across various constable and firefighter positions. The application process has already begun, attracting thousands of aspirants.
Vacancy Details and Positions
According to the official notification released by OUSSSC, the recruitment covers a total of 7,268 vacancies spread across seven different posts. These include Constable (Civil) with 4,219 posts, Constable (Communication) with 300 vacancies, Constable OISF with 2,212 posts, Firefighter with 317 positions, Firefighting Driver with 62 openings, Driver PMT with 154 vacancies, and Traffic Constable with 4 posts. This broad range aims to strengthen Odisha’s uniformed services.
For applicants, the educational requirements vary by position. Candidates for Constable (Civil), Constable (Communication), Firefighter, Firefighting Driver, and Traffic Constable must have passed at least the 12th standard from a recognized board or equivalent. In contrast, those applying for Constable OISF and Driver PMT positions must have completed their 10th standard.
Eligibility Criteria and Age Limits
Age eligibility is calculated as of January 1, 2026. The minimum age required is 18 for all posts. The maximum age limit varies: Constable (Civil) candidates should not exceed 26 years, Constable (Communication) and OISF candidates up to 23 years, and for all other posts, the upper limit is 25 years. Age relaxations will apply to reserved category candidates according to government rules.
The recruitment process streamlines application and selection by introducing a single combined form and exam for all positions. This marks the first time candidates can apply simultaneously for multiple uniformed posts through one application and examination procedure, enhancing convenience.
The selection involves a written test followed by Physical Endurance Test and Physical Standard Test (PET-PST), skill and driving tests where applicable, medical examinations, and document verification. This multi-stage process ensures that only qualified and physically fit candidates are selected.
Recruitment Supervision and Application Process
To promote transparency and efficiency, the recruitment is conducted under the supervision of OUSSSC, headed by Rashmi Ranjan Swain. Swain is a retired IPS officer and former Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir. The state government created OUSSSC to address past irregularities and improve recruitment integrity.
Applications commenced on October 23, 2026, and will remain open until 10 PM on November 12, 2026.
