Tarique Rahman Urges Equal Rights for All Religions in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for equal rights for people of all religions and appealed for united efforts towards the nation’s development. Speaking at a Sharadiya greeting event held at the Radha Gobind Dharmasabha temple in Rangpur, he emphasized the importance of collective action for progress.

Rahman highlighted Bangladesh’s history of religious harmony, stating that people from different faiths have coexisted peacefully for thousands of years. The government aims to preserve this tradition well into the future, ensuring lasting unity across communities.

Struggles for Independence and Democracy

Referencing the 1971 Liberation War, Rahman noted that individuals from all religious and social backgrounds fought together to free the nation, disregarding faith differences. He stressed the shared sacrifices made during these pivotal movements for independence and democracy.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the 2024 student-led protests, where diverse groups joined forces to demand their rights. He warned against attempts to tarnish or politicize these historical movements, urging respect for their significance.

Rahman expressed that if citizens have concerns or issues, they should be raised in parliament, reinforcing faith in democratic processes. He appealed to democratic supporters to maintain solidarity amid differing views.

Commitment to Balanced Regional Development

Rahman assured that his government strives to work for even those who did not support him in elections. His administration focuses on fair allocation of resources to promote balanced development throughout the regions of Bangladesh.

He shared that nearly two weeks ago, the ECNEC approved funds amounting to 1,800 crore taka for the development of Rangpur city. Additional projects are planned with the local government ministry to build infrastructure such as bridges, schools, and colleges in various sub-districts, unions, and villages within the district.

The Prime Minister encouraged people to set aside differences and collaborate to fulfill these initiatives and move the country forward.

Rahman arrived at the temple from Saidpur Airport, where he was warmly welcomed with traditional rituals and a children’s dance performance. He interacted with devotees and received an honorary symbol from temple chairman Bhbatosh Sarkar and general secretary Khokon Sarkar. In response, he presented the temple with a 10 lakh taka cheque.

He reiterated that Bangladesh is a nation of all religions and the government aims to serve every citizen. Rahman urged everyone to overcome divisions, remain united, and contribute to the nation’s progress.
