Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for a global system to address cyber frauds, deepfakes, and digital crimes. Speaking at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, he highlighted how these digital threats transcend national borders and require cooperative efforts globally.
Call for Global Collaboration
In his opening remarks at the tenth edition of IMC 2026, Modi called on governments, technology companies, telecom operators, and financial institutions to develop mechanisms to prevent digital fraud. He urged the GSMA and telecom operators worldwide to join forces in creating systems that can stop cyber fraud before it affects citizens.
Sharing India’s Experience
Modi noted that India has gained valuable experience in combating digital frauds and expressed the country’s readiness to share this knowledge globally. “India has learnt a lot from its experiences in this direction, and India is always ready to share its experiences with the world,” he said.
The Challenge of Digital Trust and Deepfakes
The Prime Minister stressed that technology’s benefits can be realized only when it earns people’s trust. He highlighted that cyber crimes often involve actors from multiple countries, explaining, “A person sitting in one country, with the help of a person in another country, can commit a crime in a third country.” He also warned about the increasing threat posed by deepfakes.
