Chirag Paswan Eyes All 403 Seats in 2027 UP Assembly Elections; Will This Strengthen His Bargaining Power Within the NDA?

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has decided to intensify its preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The party has announced that it will begin organizational preparations across all 403 Assembly constituencies in the state. However, it has not yet been decided whether the LJP will contest the elections independently or as part of an alliance.

Despite being a part of the NDA, Chirag Paswan has continued to emphasize maintaining his party’s separate political identity. He recently said that he is part of the alliance but is not the BJP. His position is being viewed in the context of the party’s strategy to expand its presence in Uttar Pradesh.

Expansion Beyond Bihar

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Chirag Paswan’s party won all five seats it contested in Bihar. Following this performance, Chirag’s role in national politics became more significant. Now, by building an organizational base in Uttar Pradesh, he appears to be seeking to project the LJP as a party that is not limited to Bihar.

In the Nagaland Assembly elections, the LJP won two seats and secured 8.6% of the vote. Uttar Pradesh is now being viewed as an important political arena for the party’s national expansion.

Focus on Dalit and Youth Voters

Following the Bahujan Samaj Party’s weaker electoral performance in Uttar Pradesh, the LJP appears to be viewing the changing dynamics of Dalit politics as an opportunity. However, Uttar Pradesh’s Dalit social composition is different from that of Bihar. Communities such as Pasi, Valmiki and Khatik have their own distinct political backgrounds.

Through his young and modern political image, Chirag Paswan is seeking to connect with these communities as well as younger voters. His ‘Youth Bole Toh’ campaign in Prayagraj placed particular emphasis on issues concerning young people.

Potential Impact on Electoral Equations

If the LJP contests all 403 seats independently, the division of votes could influence election results in several constituencies, particularly those where the winning margin is relatively narrow.

Chirag Paswan’s Uttar Pradesh strategy appears to be aimed not only at expanding the party’s organizational presence but also at strengthening his role in national politics. It remains to be seen how this strategy develops as the 2027 Assembly elections approach.
