Focus on Dismantling Drug Trafficking Networks as Anti-Narcotics Task Force Conference Concludes

New Delhi, India

The two-day national conference of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force concluded with a strong emphasis on making action against drug trafficking more effective. Participants stressed that enforcement should not be limited to drug seizures, but should focus on dismantling entire trafficking networks and pursuing effective legal action against the masterminds behind them.

The conference was organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on September 22 and 23. A statement issued on Thursday outlined the key discussions and priorities that emerged during the event.

The conference emphasized identifying organized drug trafficking networks, taking coordinated action against them, and developing strategies to prosecute key figures operating these trafficking syndicates.

Three-Year Roadmap for States

According to the NCB, states were encouraged to prepare their own three-year roadmaps along the lines of the roadmap developed by the central government. The objective is to establish clear strategies for controlling the drug problem at the state level and taking effective action against trafficking networks.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the conference on Tuesday and emphasized the need for decisive action against narcotics.

According to the NCB statement, Amit Shah said the time had come for decisive action against drugs, describing narcotics as one of the serious threats facing the country and the world.

The central government has also prepared a roadmap aimed at achieving a drug-free India. A few months ago, Amit Shah released a National Vision Document, setting a target of making the country drug-free by 2029.

The conference also emphasized stronger coordination between states and relevant agencies, improved identification of trafficking networks, and more effective legal action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
