Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken action against Mumbai’s iconic Cafe Mondegar, suspending its food licence after an inspection reportedly found several serious deficiencies related to food safety and hygiene.
Following the FDA’s action, the licence of Cafe Mondegar has been suspended. During the inspection, officials reportedly found shortcomings in arrangements related to food safety, cleanliness and the storage of food items.
The action was not limited to Cafe Mondegar. A team led by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Munde also took action against three other establishments in Mumbai. These include Tribhuvan Dairy Farm in Ghatkopar West, Maharashtra Biryani Centre in Kandivali, and Mahavir Kaju & Foods Private Limited in Ghatkopar East.
FDA teams are inspecting food establishments to assess the quality of food products, hygiene standards and arrangements for the safe storage and handling of food items. Action has been taken against establishments where officials reportedly found violations of prescribed safety and hygiene regulations.
Cafe Mondegar is one of Mumbai’s well-known dining destinations. The suspension of its licence has therefore drawn attention to food safety and hygiene standards at popular eateries across the city.
The FDA’s action is aimed at ensuring that food businesses comply with prescribed food safety and sanitation standards. The department is also expected to continue inspections of other food establishments across Mumbai.
Following the suspension of its licence, Cafe Mondegar will need to address the deficiencies identified by the FDA. Further developments will depend on the department’s inspection findings and any subsequent action taken by the authorities.
