Multiple areas report bike-borne snatching incidents; restrictions imposed on Court Road at night amid security concerns

A series of chain-snatching incidents reported across Ranchi over the past 24 hours has raised fresh concerns over the safety of residents, particularly women travelling on city roads.
According to police, bike-borne criminals targeted residents in different parts of the state capital and fled immediately after allegedly snatching gold chains and mobile phones.
The incidents have reportedly been reported across several police station areas, including Bariatu, Kotwali, Lalpur, Lower Bazaar and Pandra.
Bike-Borne Suspects Making Quick Getaways
The biggest challenge for police is the speed with which the suspected criminals escape after committing the offences.
In several cases, victims reportedly had little time to react as the suspects approached on motorcycles, committed the alleged snatching and sped away.
Police teams are now examining CCTV footage from areas surrounding the reported crime scenes in an effort to identify the suspects and establish their movements.
Special surveillance teams, including personnel in plain clothes, have also been deployed at strategic locations.
Suspected Snatcher Apprehended During Surveillance
In one incident, a police officer conducting surveillance near Bada Talab reportedly chased and apprehended a suspected chain-snatcher.
Police have also activated teams to conduct raids at locations where the suspects are believed to be hiding.
Officials are examining whether the incidents are connected and whether the same group could be involved in multiple cases.
Night-Time Gatherings Add to Security Concerns
Apart from chain-snatching incidents, police are also dealing with complaints regarding the gathering of alleged anti-social elements at certain locations after dark.
As part of the security measures, vehicle movement on Court Road near Kacheri Chowk will be restricted during night hours.
Barricades have been installed near the CBI gate and Registration Office gate. General vehicle entry on the approximately 150-metre stretch will remain prohibited between 9 pm and 5 am.
Police officials said similar drives had earlier been carried out to remove anti-social elements from the area.
Although increased patrolling had reportedly improved the situation for some time, complaints of gatherings resurfaced later.
Continuous Patrolling Ordered
To strengthen security in the area, police have now increased the presence of PCR vehicles and patrolling teams on Court Road.
Officials are maintaining regular surveillance during night hours, particularly around locations considered vulnerable to anti-social activity.
The measures are aimed at preventing criminal incidents as well as improving the sense of security among residents and commuters.
Ranchi Police Face a Dual Security Challenge
The recent developments have created a two-fold challenge for Ranchi police.
During the day, bike-borne snatching incidents have raised concerns about street crime and the safety of residents. At night, complaints about gatherings of alleged anti-social elements in sensitive areas have added another layer to the city’s security concerns.
Police action has intensified, including CCTV analysis, plainclothes surveillance, raids and increased night patrolling.
The key challenge now is to ensure that these measures produce a lasting improvement in public safety and prevent a recurrence of such incidents across the state capital.
